Don't Be a Sleepwalking Smurf: Run!

Have you ever noticed how many people sleep walk through life?

You know who I'm talking about.  He/she gets up and just goes through the motions.  He/she is unaware of how precious each moment of each day truly is to live the life we all deserve: a happy one.

Sleep walking is a condition whereby we walk, eat, and do other things in our sleep and aren't aware of our actions.  It's pretty much like death. The problem with death is we are usually not fortunate enough to predict when it will happen, but it's a part of life we will all have to face.

I read a beautiful blog post almost two years ago on Maria Shriver's blog about the Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.  Bronnie Ware is a writer and songwriter from Australia, who spent several years as a caregiver for dying people.

The top regret?  "I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."

Sound familiar?  You're not alone.  Too often we all are guilty of trying to live a life that's not ours.  We do things to make others happy instead of focusing on being our best selves, and bringing our whole selves to everything we do.  I believe once we embrace this, we will make good choices that drive a happy life.  Many years ago I was trapped in a life I didn't really want.  It made me unhappy and everything suffered as a result.  It was only when I had the courage to change that I began to realize my fullest potential in work, life, and relationships.

Game changing innovator, Steve Jobs said once that "Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent."  After Jobs diagnosed with cancer he went on to change our world by inventing the very device I use to write this post.  He lived every moment he had until the very end.

What are you doing to make this life yours?  What can you do today, right now to live the life you deserve?

Don't be a sleep-walking smurf ... run!  The world needs your greatness...now!
